As part of our National Apprenticeship Week celebrations we sent a group of apprentices to volunteer at the annual WE day UK event at the SSE Arena Wembley. Alice Pett from our Supply Chain function who is on the Level 4 Business Administration apprenticeship shares more about the day:
I am currently reflecting on my fantastic experience at this year’s WE Day UK celebration at the SSE Arena, Wembley in London. I still can’t believe that I had the opportunity to take part in such an inspiring and thought-provoking event.
What is WE?
In their own words “We is a movement that brings people together and gives them the tools to change the world.” Simple isn’t it!
Let’s talk about the day:
Have you ever been to the SSE Arena in Wembley? No? It really is amazing, so close to Wembley stadium it seats an amazing 12,500 people. The reality of what we were doing started to hit when I put the red t-shirt on and made my way into the arena. It was great to see so many volunteers, giving their time to help the younger generation change the world.
I was given a Crowd Cheerer role which I must admit I was nervous about only because I am usually quite quiet when it comes to concerts. However, being able to volunteer with other people gave me that confidence boost. Also, being able to speak to people I have never met before was a great experience, I am able to bring what I experienced there back into my job in the support office. You don’t think how an experience like this could affect so many aspects of your development. Because I have spoken to people I wouldn’t normally meet I am able to talk in front of people without being as nervous. E.g. a presentation.
Then the audience arrived! These young kids/adults have all earnt their way to the concert through volunteering, taking action on the issues they care about and simply by doing nice things for charity. How amazing is that! These exceptional kids have helped their community whether it be a cake sale, a new reading group formed at their school or giving support to individuals who need it, they had all worked so hard to get there.

Whoop Whoop! The celebrations started and my oh my what a celebration it was! We had the likes of Alexandra Burke, The Tenors with the Kenyan Boys Choir and Tokio
Myers to just name a few. We even had their HRH Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice present to give their views on inspiration.
Who else? I hear you ask…?
Spencer West- ME to WE Motivational Speaker, WE Ambassador and author.
Musharraf Asghar and his incredible teacher Mr Burton- Youtuber and Motivational Speaker, Teacher at Thornhill academy.
Margaret Trudeau- celebrated Canadian, author and mental health advocate.
Lily Collins- Golden Globe nominated actress and author.
Holly Branson- Co-Chair of WE Day UK, Chair of Virgin Unite & Founder, Trustee of Big Change.
Can you imagine how remarkable this event was?
